OUTLAWS EDGE NITRO 14-13

The Stillwater Outlaws won the inaugural preseason game of the Oklahoma Metro Football League on Saturday by beating the Norman Nitro 14-13. Over 200 fans made the trip to see the game which was played at Destiny Christian in Midwest City.

Stillwater scored on their opening possession after an 8 minute and 43 second drive which was capped by a 6-yard run by Terrance Burris (Broken Bow). Ryan Henderson (Putnam City) tacked on the extra point to put the Outlaws up 7-0. After the first drive the offense stalled out due to three turnovers and the loss of starters Burris and Mickey Jones (Stillwater). The strength of the defense kept the game in hand. The defense allowed the Nitro only 128 total yards of offense for the day and forced them to commit three turnovers.

Down 13-7 late in the third quarter, Stillwater drove the length of the field with a drive kept alive by a 30 yard pass from Brandon Ingham to Robert Earl Johnson (both of Stillwater). Kyle Belveal (Yale) and Jerwin Johnson (Glenpool) provided most of the carries after Jones and Burris were sidelined with injuries. Jerwin Johnson provided the final carry to put the ball in the endzone and Henderson tacked on his second extra point to give Stillwater the lead 14-13. And interception by James Kappel (Stillwater) late in the 4th quarter gave Stillwater the ball and allowed them to run out the clock and hold on to the lead.

Stillwater will play their second preseason game against the Midwest City Force on February 9th at Destiny Christian.
