OUTLAWS DEFEAT FORCE 29-11
The Oklahoma Metro Football League wrapped up preseason games with the Stillwater Outlaws defeating the Oklahoma Force 29-11. Stillwater finished with a 2-0 record with wins over the Force and the Jan 26th 14-13 win over the Norman Nitro.
For the second game in a row, Stillwater scored on their opening possession after an 8 minute and 36 second drive was capped by an 8-yard run by Robert Earl Johnson (Stillwater). Ryan Henderson (Putnam City) tacked on the extra point to put the Outlaws up 7-0. The Force answered with a drive that ended in the second quarter with a 30-yard field goal to put them on the board. Stillwater got the ball and answered a few plays later with a 46-yard touchdown run by Jerwin Johnson (Glenpool). Henderson tacked on the extra point and extended the lead over the Force 14-3.
The Oklahoma Force got back on the board in the third quarter and made their 2-point conversion to cut Stillwater’s lead 14-11. Stillwater answered in the fourth quarter as they drove the field and Jerwin Johnson scored again with a 14 yard touchdown run. Another extra point by Henderson extended the lead 21-11. With less than six minutes left in the game, Stillwater drove the length of the field to score on a 31-yard run by Jerwin Johnson, his third of the day. Henderson took the ball himself on the PAT and ran into the endzone for the 2-point conversion and a 29-11 lead.
The ground game was extremely productive as it racked up over 300 yard and 4 touchdowns. Jerwin Johnson led the attack with 169 yards rushing, followed by Robert Earl Johnson with 74. Kyle Belveal (Yale) also rushed for 50 yards. Quarterback Brandon Ingham (Stillwater) was 2 for 2 in passes and Henderson was 1 for 1.
The Outlaw defense was also very successful. They forced a turnover and gave up only 11 points. They also had 4 fourth-down stands led by Murphy Braden (Cleveland) and Matt Taylor (Grapevine, TX). The 11 points is the lowest any team held their opponent to in the preseason.
The OMFL regular season will begin on March 1st with games to be played at Crooked Oak Field in Midwest City. Stillwater will play its first regular season game on March 8th at 3:00pm against the Oklahoma Force.
